Editor Brian Shillibeer reviews this month’s News pages and points out the conviction of a site manager for taking risks with ten employees working at height. Shillibeer says ‘health & safety gone mad’ is a construct of consultants and The Sun as he points to a story also covered in this issue of a new safety device which allows windows to be fitted from inside – that saved one firm £160,000 in scaffolding fees on just one job. Shillibeer also laments the fate of the five people to have fallen from roofs in the past six weeks – one of whom, a 19 year old, died from his injuries.
